During one of my many internet snoops, I came across this book that pretty much holds the exact same philosophy that I do – why have beautiful things and not display them? Never Stop to Think…Do I Have a Place for This is an eclectic collection of images showing how others have styled their homes with the use of their treasures and trinkets. This is a must for my bookshelf!
It has always been a concern for many that if you welcome a dark shade paint into your home then you fear making the room look smaller, and perhaps the wall to ceiling colour could be oppressive. However, these three interiors prove this to not be the case. Each room is bought alive with colour, textures and prints and the block colour is broken up by the art on the walls and the eclectic furniture that each room holds.
This collection of images summarises quaint English interiors, in my opinion. The exposed skeleton of the house for all to see in the aged beams and rigid brickwork, an the ‘thrown together’ style that I love so much. Hydrangeas have started to form in the garden and their globe like presence in a vase is a sight I look forward to every year…
I think there is something enchanting about each one of these photographs. The romanticism of layers of colour, texture and design styles stacked up on one another, as occupiers have developed through an interior design journey. Like upholstery, these walls are created of layers and the one thing that makes the wall unique is the wallpaper that dresses the wall, like fabric to a chair…
I love loft apartments, they always feel secure and comforting with their low proportions.
I was immediately attracted to this lofted beauty of a home as the house looks so inviting but has managed to be light and airy, a description which can not be associated with all. The light floods in through the large windows and the white gallery-esque walls show the colours and textures on display perfectly.

I always think that a home should have fresh flowers & plants in plentiful amounts. It not only perks up any room, it also brings the outside in which I love whatever the season. I like to place my flowers & plants on different levels so that the eye travels around the room and digests all on displays.

Two years ago today Hana & George was put together on my sofa. The idea was to create somewhere that I could document all the images and ideas that inspire me as a visual keepsake. This blog runs along side my work as an upholsterer and I love the community that my ‘online sketchbook’ has attracted, it is lovely to find others who love what I love.
Thank to you all for your support & comments over the past two years, it has been a journey that I look forward to carrying on with you all and hope others continue to join along the way…

Vintage birdy imagery, light and nature have all played a part in this weeks inspirations. The arrival of glorious sunshine has left me with the need to update my workshop and this weekend shall be spent with ‘Brilliant White’ emulsion. Watch this space.

I always think that there is little reason to have possessions if you can’t see them. I think that beauty should be displayed and when things are on show, they also create interest within a room. With this in mind, I am pro open shelving.
